Federal Lands Permitting

Our multidisciplinary team navigates and defends permitting for complex projects critical to the future of the US economy.

From transmission lines to infrastructure development, our federal permitting team helps clients develop and execute project-specific strategies when federal statutes are triggered. Our team has extensive experience managing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process on public and private lands. We work on projects involving federal law compliance including discharge permits, impacts on endangered species and wildlife, historical properties, and adjacent communities.

We understand the importance of working with federal and state agencies to create an administrative record that can withstand legal challenges. We have a substantial track record of defending clients’ projects at federal and state agencies and tribal and federal courts.

Many of Holland & Hart’s environmental attorneys bring to the permitting process experience gleaned from prior senior-level enforcement positions held within state and federal regulatory agencies, including the EPA and DOJ—giving them a unique, deep understanding of the complexities and nuances of moving federal land projects forward, including those crossing state lines and tribal jurisdictions.
