Ian is a patent attorney with a focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications within the electrical and mechanical arts.
He provides support to clients across the telecommunications, electronics, home automation, semiconductor fields, and hunting equipment. He has worked on various medical device technologies including orthopedic implants and hospital beds, power tools, turbine engines, vehicle-based systems, acoustic control systems, semantic reasoning, controller technologies, enclosure technologies, and mixed-sample gene analysis.
In addition to his prosecution experience, Ian counsels clients on patent infringement and validity analysis, non-infringement/invalidity opinions, freedom-to-operate opinions, and product design.
Prior to joining Holland & Hart, Ian was a patent attorney for Barnes & Thornburg LLP. He also did patent work at BioFire Diagnostics, Berry Plastics, Crane Naval Warfare Center, and held a research position in the Engineering Department at BYU.
