Holland & Hart Advises Duke Energy in Sale of 50% Ownership Interest in Pioneer Transmission Joint Venture

Holland & Hart represented Duke Energy Corp, a Fortune 150 company and one of America’s largest energy holding companies, in its agreement to sell its 50% ownership interest in Pioneer Transmission LLC to John Laing Group, an international investor and active manager of core infrastructure assets. Subject to customary closing conditions, this transaction is expected to close by the end of 2024.

Pioneer Transmission, a joint venture with American Electric Power (AEP), is a 42.5-mile, 765-kilovolt transmission line with its associated substation assets. With the proceeds from this sale, Duke Energy plans to invest in its clean energy transition in its state-regulated utilities.

For more information, please see Duke Energy’s press release.

The Holland & Hart transactional team was led by energy and resources partner Billi McCullough, with assistance from Gabriel Hamilton, Chris Wittels, Abby Briggerman, Adam Cohen, David Glynn, and Colin Oldberg.

The way electric power is generated, delivered, and used continues to evolve. The firm’s industry-savvy Electric Power team has honed skills working on all types of transactions related to electric generating and transmission projects, as well as regulatory issues, ratemaking and policy concerns, and simply (or not so simply) moving electrons from here to there.
