Holland & Hart LLP is proud to announce 12 attorneys have been elected into the firm’s partnership, effective January 1, 2015. The new partners represent several practice areas and work from seven of the firm’s 15 offices across the Mountain West and Washington, D.C.

The new partners are:
Bryce Alstead practices in the Reno and Las Vegas offices as a member of the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources practice group. Alstead regularly advises developers, investors, and lenders in the energy, mining, and real estate development industries on complex land use, permitting, real estate, energy, and water rights matters. In many cases, Alstead represents energy clients in all phases of a successful project, including due diligence, site acquisition, permitting, construction, project financing, and ultimately operations.
Brenda Berg practices in the Denver office as a member of the firm’s Employee Benefits practice group. Berg provides insight to employers on a wide array of tax and ERISA matters affecting employee benefit plans. Berg’s clients benefit from her background in accounting and her experience working as a third-party 401(k) plan administrator. She advises mid-sized and large public and private companies, governmental entities, and professional service organizations.
Margot Edwards practices in the Boulder office as a member of the firm’s Private Client practice group. Counseling clients on a wide range of tax and estate planning issues, her practice concentrates on tax and estate planning, wealth transfer planning, and charitable giving techniques. Edwards utilizes vehicles such as trusts, limited liability companies, and marital agreements to help clients achieve tax savings and meet family and personal objectives.
Sean Hanlon practices in the Denver office as a litigator in the firm’s Real Estate, Construction, Finance, and Bankruptcy practice group. Hanlon helps construction firms, real estate companies, and financial institutions resolve complex litigation in alignment with client strategies and goals through jury and bench trials, dispositive motions, ADR, and negotiated settlement. In addition to counseling prime contractors, lenders, and loan servicers, Hanlon handles a variety of general commercial litigation matters.
Elizabeth Harding practices in the Boulder office as a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. Harding counsels clients in the cable television and entertainment industry on transactional and operational matters, particularly advertising and media sales. She negotiates licensing and other technology transactions for clients in the hotels and luxury goods and healthcare industries. Licensed to practice law in Colorado and the UK, Harding utilizes her UK qualifications to counsel clients on data privacy, compliance, international privacy strategies, and data protection policies and procedures.
Scott Karren practices in the Salt Lake City office as a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group advising clients on the development, management, and protection of strategic patent portfolios. He leverages extensive experience with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to expedite domestic and international applications. Karren works closely with clients in a variety of technology areas, from wireless communications to network security and software.
Michelle King practices in the Denver Tech Center office as a member of the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources practice group. King counsels clients throughout the Mountain West to navigate the spectrum of electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water, and transportation regulatory and legislative matters that impact their industries. King also regularly represents clients in administrative proceedings before state and federal agencies on nearly all aspects affecting utilities and their ratepayers, including rates, adjustment mechanisms, tariff provisions, resource planning, service quality, and reliability issues.
Darren Reid practices in the Salt Lake City office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. Reid represents corporations and individuals in complex litigation involving a wide range of business-related matters including employment, real estate, white-collar litigation, and government investigations. Reid handles matters in state and federal courts, including jury trials, bench trials, and preliminary injunction hearings. He is also experienced in resolving disputes through arbitration, mediation, and negotiated settlement.
Tim Riley practices in the Reno office as a member of the Private Client practice group focusing on estate and family business planning, tax-exempt entities, and probate, in addition to trust administration and corporate law. His intimate knowledge of tax codes and extensive experience representing clients before the Internal Revenue Service allow him to guide clients to structure their wealth to grow in compliance with ever-changing tax laws.
Stephen Sansom practices in the Salt Lake City office as a member of the Commercial Litigation practice group. He counsels clients throughout the Mountain West and assists them in navigating the complexities of commercial litigation to achieve favorable outcomes. His experience includes a wide range of business-related disputes including employment, product advertising, misappropriation of trade secret, breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and intellectual property. Sansom handles matters in state and federal courts and also has significant experience resolving disputes through arbitration, mediation, and negotiated settlement.
Isaac Sutphin practices in the Cheyenne office as a member of the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources practice group. Sutphin negotiates use, access, and rights to land to support linear projects for energy and oil and gas clients ranging from interstate transmission pipelines to local gathering systems. He counsels energy sector clients in permitting, licensing, and compliance matters and represents clients in disputes before administrative tribunals and in court. Sutphin defends the rights and interests of secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy and workout proceedings.
Ashley Wald practices in the Denver office as a member of the Corporate practice group focusing on energy and infrastructure transactions with a particular emphasis on renewable energy projects. Wald advises clients at all stages of project development, including site acquisition and permitting, power purchase agreements, construction, financing, and operations. She advises clients in the purchase and sale of companies and assets in the energy industry, in particular related to solar, wind and natural gas resources.
