Holland & Hart is proud to announce that Michael Beaver was honored as the recipient of the James K. Carroll Leadership Award by the American Bar Association (ABA) Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS).
Established in 2010 to honor the memory of distinguished TIPS member James K. Carroll, who served as the TIPS Chair during the 2004-05 bar year, this award honors the outstanding leadership Mr. Carroll provided to the Section by recognizing an attorney or judge who has demonstrated these same leadership qualities in service to the Section. Beaver joins a prestigious group of recipients who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their profession.
“Mike has shown outstanding leadership and dedicated service not just to the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, but in his commitment and service at Holland & Hart,” said Maureen Witt, the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group Leader. “He is an excellent mentor to many of his colleagues and peers. We congratulate Mike on this well-deserved recognition and path he has paved for others.”
Beaver works with clients to achieve optimal resolution of employment, insurance, and benefit plan disputes, and to develop practical preventive strategies. His employee benefits experience includes cases brought under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, involving pension and welfare benefit claims, insured life, health and disability claims, fiduciary issues, independent contractor status and class actions. Beaver leads a team of Holland & Hart lawyers who litigate employee benefit issues, resulting in dozens of trial court and appellate decisions that have helped shape controlling law. He understands the nuances of the insurance industry, and he can guide clients through the complexities of insurance coverage and, where necessary, coverage litigation.
Beaver is a regular author and speaker, presenting at programs sponsored by the ABA, DRI, Western Pension & Benefits Council, Colorado Bar Association and others. Beaver has previously served on the ABA TIPS Council, was General Committee Board chair and currently serves as co-chair of the section’s Book Publishing Board. He also frequently provides training for employers, managers and client staff concerning a range of employment, recreational liability and insurance claim issues. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
The award was presented at the TIPS annual Fall Leadership meeting during the James K. Carrol Leadership Dinner on Oct. 19 in Hawaii.
