With the increasing shift of the cost of medical services and supplies to consumers through narrow networks and high deductible plans, there has been an increase in complaints from health plan covered patients when they receive higher than expected bills from out-of-network providers. Typically, while the hospital is a contracted provider, the complaining patient is unaware the provider who treats the patient in the hospital [ER physician, anesthesiologist or radiologist, for example] is not in-network. In response to these complaints, a wave of “Surprise Billing” legislation is being proposed and enacted at federal and state levels to impose additional transparency requirements regarding the involvement of out-of-network providers and limitations on the ability of out-of-network providers to balance bill patients. This webinar will explore this recent legislation.
