Holland & Hart Partner Stephen Masciocchi has been elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL). Membership in the AAAL is by invitation only, limited to 500 members in the United States, and offered to experienced appellate attorneys who have demonstrated the highest excellence in appellate service and integrity. One of only four AAAL members in Colorado (two of whom are Holland & Hart lawyers), Steve was inducted into the Academy on October 25 at the AAAL’s 2019 Fall Meeting.
Since its founding in 1990, the AAAL has committed itself to advancing the administration of justice and promoting the highest standards of professionalism and advocacy in appellate courts. Prospective members must be nominated by current Fellows, thoroughly vetted by the legal and judicial communities, and elected to the fellowship by the AAAL Board of Directors.
“Steve is a well-respected member of the appellate community in Colorado and nationwide, particularly in civil appeals in state and federal appellate courts. He is highly regarded by judges and advocates alike for his creative arguments and persuasive advocacy,” said Maureen Witt, the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group Leader. “Induction into the AAAL is one of the highest honors conferred on an appellate lawyer. On behalf of the firm, I extend our deepest congratulations to Steve.”
Steve has more than 25 years of experience in high-stakes trial and appellate litigation. He has handled well over 100 appeals and has presented more than 50 oral arguments in civil appeals in state and federal appellate courts. Steve has represented clients in a wide array of civil litigation matters, including administrative, commercial, constitutional, insurance, product liability, real estate, and oil and gas litigation. He has litigated in the Federal District Courts of Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, and Wyoming, in the 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, and 10th Circuit Courts of Appeals, and in the U.S. Supreme Court. Steve writes and lectures frequently on appellate practice and procedure and is the Coordinating Editor of The Colorado Lawyer, and he serves on the Appellate Practice Committee for the ABA Litigation Section, the Ethics Committee with the Colorado Bar Association, and the Appellate Practice Subcommittee of the CBA Litigation Section.
