Holland & Hart represented Sphero, a Boulder-based robotics and toy manufacturer that brings together play and STEAM learning, in its acquisition of Specdrums, a crowdfunded music technology startup founded in 2016, also headquartered in Boulder. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
This acquisition will allow Sphero’s team of developers and engineers to work alongside the Specdrums founders to further develop innovative products to reach more classrooms and inspire the curiosity of young musicians. Specdrums offers app-controlled rings worn on a user’s fingers that turn color into sound with a simple tap. A launch of a second version of the largely popular Specdrums product is already being planned for late 2018 or early 2019.
Holland & Hart’s transaction team was led by Denver attorney James Crowe, with assistance from Chris Boling, and subject matter expertise from John Ludlum, Peter Perla, and Lindsay Silber.
