Responding to Non-Compliance and Government Investigations

Former federal prosecutor Bill Mercer will update webinar participants on efforts by states and the federal government to address health care fraud and overpayments to providers.

The program will address:

  • Current investigative and prosecutorial resources of the federal and state governments focused on health care fraud and overpayments
  • An overview of civil and criminal statutory authority for cases pursued by government investigators and attorneys and citizens as relators in qui tam cases
  • Analysis and assessments conducted by third-parties (RACs and ZPICs)
  • HHS-OIG work plan priorities and other trends observed from recent enforcement activities
  • The importance of a robust compliance program
  • Triggers and trip wires: when providers should consider an internal investigation
  • Debarment and program exclusion as a collateral consequences of wrongdoing
