Operating in Utah's Pending Ozone Nonattainment Areas

Utah Governor Gary Herbert is expected to recommend that EPA designate the Wasatch Front and portions of the Uinta Basin as nonattainment areas for the 2015 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS). Join Holland & Hart’s Amanda Smith and Emily Schilling, Bureau of Land Management Air Quality Specialist Leonard Herr, and Jay Baker and Sheila Vance from the Utah Division of Air Quality, to discuss what to expect when these nonattainment area designations are finalized in 2017.

Topics to be addressed:

  • What are the implications of a marginal versus moderate ozone nonattainment designation?
  • What are the state and federal roles in nonattainment planning in the Uinta Basin?
  • How will the attainment plans developed for areas under Utah jurisdiction and Indian Country in the Uinta Basin be coordinated?
  • What are the implications of the overlapping ozone and PM2.5 nonattainment areas along the Wasatch Front?
