Newal Squyres Receives Idaho State Bar 2020 Richard C. Fields Civility Award

Holland & Hart is proud to announce Boise Partner Newal Squyres has been named the 2020 recipient of the Richard C. Fields Civility Award by the Idaho State Bar (ISB) Professionalism & Ethics Section and the Concordia University School of Law. Newal was presented with the award during the ISB’s November 2020 Fourth District Roadshow, Awards Presentation, and CLE webcast meeting and was featured in The Advocate.

The award is presented annually to recognize only one Idaho judge or attorney who demonstrates a commitment to professionalism and civility in the legal profession. The Richard C. Fields Civility Award is named in honor of Dick Fields, who was consistently recognized for his service, professionalism, and leadership within the ISB and was known in the legal community as an advocate for civility in the practice of law.

Newal is a partner in Holland & Hart’s commercial litigation practice and is based in the firm’s Boise office. He has over 45 years of experience as a trial lawyer in commercial, employment, and tort litigation. A Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, Newal has tried to verdict complex lawsuits and has handled countless other cases before judges and juries in Idaho state courts, and in federal courts in Idaho, Washington, California, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, including appeals before the Idaho Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In recent years, he has expanded his practice to include mediation and provides clients problem solving alternatives to negotiate a mutually agreeable resolution of their disputes.

In addition to his service as an attorney, Newal has served as an ISB Commissioner, including one term as president, served on the Idaho Pro Bono Commission, Idaho Partners Against Domestic Violence, Idaho Law Foundation, Citizens’ Law Academy and other professional organizations. Newal has spent time giving back to future lawyers, teaching at the Trial Advocacy Clinic at the University of Idaho Law School for more than two decades. He is dedicated to mentoring the younger generation of lawyers at Holland & Hart, readily sharing his expertise, practical guidance, and ‘war’ stories to help them develop and grow in their own careers.
