DENVER (May 13, 2017) – Holland & Hart is pleased to announce that the University of Colorado Law School has named Partner Michael Carrigan as the 2017 Honorary Order of the Coif at this year’s Colorado Law Commencement Ceremony, held on Saturday, May 13.
Colorado Law presents an Honorary Order of the Coif each year to a member of the legal community. The University of Colorado Law School, one of the 81 member law schools, became a member in 1942. “Carrigan was selected for this honorary designation based on his outstanding achievements as a lawyer and his exemplary service to the legal community and to the University of Colorado,” said Colorado Law’s Dean S. James Anaya. “He is an inspiration to our students and is a model of excellence in the legal profession.”
Michael Carrigan is a Colorado native and nationally recognized attorney with an extensive history of public service. He graduated from CU Law in 1994, and spent a year clerking for the Honorable Clarence Brimmer of the U.S. District Court in Wyoming. Carrigan served as a state prosecutor for nearly six years. After working as a senior associate in a small, Denver based plaintiff’s firm, he joined Holland & Hart LLP in the firm’s Denver office where he currently co-leads the firm’s insurance coverage practice representing policyholders.
Carrigan was elected to the University of Colorado Board of Regents in 2004, and served for 12 years as a leader on diversity issues, financial aid, and many other concerns. He has been honored for his leadership in the community and legal profession, including recognition as a “Colorado Super Lawyer” since 2009, listed in “The Best Lawyers in America” since 2014, the 2007 “Davis Award” recipient, a prestigious award of the Denver Bar Foundation for lawyers under 40, and as a 2006 Marshall Fellow, where he participated in a month-long exchange program that took him from NATO’s headquarters in Brussels to Frankfurt, Istanbul, Warsaw, Berlin, and other major European cities.
