Holland & Hart is proud to announce that partner Michael Carrigan was inducted as a Fellow into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers at the organization’s 2026 mid-year meeting held July 22-26.
The International Academy of Trial Lawyers (the Academy) is the world’s foremost trial lawyer organization, dedicated to excellence, advocacy, and legal reform. Founded in 1954, the Academy consists of the best trial lawyers as measured by skill, experience, ethics and civility. The Academy’s membership includes 500 active trial lawyers in the United States and Fellows from more than 30 countries, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in civil cases, as well as prosecutors and criminal defense lawyers.
Michael's career reflects the skill, experience, and integrity the Academy demands of its Fellows. He has tried more than one hundred cases before judges and juries. He has litigated matters at every level, from the Colorado Supreme Court to the Tenth Circuit. Today, he represents companies and individuals in complex, high-stakes disputes involving business litigation, government investigations, privacy, and cybersecurity, and has secured wins for clients in numerous trials and arbitrations with multi-million-dollar stakes.
His courtroom record is matched by a distinguished record of public service, including twelve years as an elected University of Colorado Regent (two terms as Chair). He also served on the Board of Directors for Easter Seals Colorado. In 2023, Michael was jointly appointed by Colorado's Governor, Attorney General, and Chief Justice to a six-year term on the Judicial Nominating Commission, where he helps select trial judges in Denver.
Michael joins Holland & Hart partner Maureen Witt, a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers recently appointed to the Academy's Board of Directors. With only ten Academy members in Colorado, Michael's inclusion makes Holland & Hart the only Colorado firm with two Fellows.
