Jon Katchen Recognized for Pro Bono Services by ANDVSA

Holland & Hart Anchorage attorney Jon Katchen has been recognized as a Volunteer Attorney of the Month in October 2019 by Alaska Network on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault (ANDVSA). He was recognized for his contributions of providing pro bono legal assistance and teamwork with former Holland & Hart attorney Tali Birch Kindred.

ANDVSA’s Legal Program provides free legal assistance to low-income victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in divorce, child custody, protective order, and other civil proceedings through staff attorneys and volunteers. Each month, ANDVSA spotlights dedicated volunteer attorneys.

Jon has been volunteering his legal services at ANDVSA since 2010. One of his more recent pro bono cases included representation of a mother that was in a domestic violence situation applying for sole legal custody of her two-year-old child, who was struggling behaviorally and developmentally as a result of witnessing the domestic violence in the home. With the assistance of ANDVSA, Jon, and Tali, after 14 months and a trial, the mother successfully received full custody of her child, who is now flourishing in school. “It’s extremely rewarding to see the legal process change the trajectory of people’s lives,” Jon said.

Jon’s legal practice at Holland & Hart focuses on natural resources project development, defense of governmental and citizen enforcement actions, and complex commercial litigation. He also counsels investors and resource development companies regarding economic development opportunities in Alaska. Jon practices in federal and state courts and has represented clients before the U.S. Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, federal District Court of Alaska, the Alaska Supreme Court, the Alaska Superior Court, the Office of Administrative Hearings, and the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. He has also testified before the Alaska Legislature.
