Holland & Hart's Scott Barker, Steve Choquette and Don Degnan Honored at Denver's "Best of the Bar" Event
DENVER, COLO., SEPTEMBER, 12 2003…Three Holland & Hart attorneys were honored at the First “Best of the Bar” event sponsored by the Denver Business Journal. Scott Barker was named Top Business Litigator, Steven Choquette was named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year, and Don Degnan was a finalist for the Top IP Attorney.
The “Best of the Bar” awards were based on 1,500 ballots cast by members of the Colorado Bar. The awards were presented at a breakfast held at the Marriott City Center in Denver on September 12, 2003. Scott Barker, former Chairman of the Management Committee at Holland & Hart, is a highly “sought-after litigator with more than 60 trials under his belt, a third of which have been to juries” wrote Denver Business Journal. Barker is a graduate of Harvard Law School, the Air Force Academy, and a Rhodes Scholar. He served in the Air Force and the Pentagon before joining Holland & Hart.
“Steven Choquette might be called the conscience of his profession,” stated the Business Journal in its profile. Choquette led Holland & Hart’s Pro Bono efforts for many of his 17 years with the firm. American Lawyer ranks Holland & Hart as fourth in the nation for its Pro Bono efforts. Choquette has chaired or co-chaired the Denver Bar Association’s Legal Services Committee. He’s managed the group’s Metro Volunteer Lawyers Program, and has provided thousands of hours of his time to a wide range of Pro Bono cases. The Denver Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association and the American Bar Association have also honored him for his leadership in Pro Bono work.
Don Degnan, an Intellectual Property lawyer who practices in the Boulder office of Holland & Hart, was named as one of the three finalists in the “Intellectual Property” category. Degnan co-chairs Holland & Hart’s Intellectual Property Group (www.iph2.com) and specializes in the areas of trademark and patent litigation, Internet law, copyright, trade libel and trade secret law.
