Holland & Hart Represents Southern California Public Power Authority in Agreement for Significant Purchase of Wind Energy by LADWP

Holland & Hart served as lead counsel to the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) on behalf of its member the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) in a significant transaction that will supply renewable energy to the City of Los Angeles. SCPPA is a Joint Powers Authority created to provide joint planning, financing, construction, and operation of transmission and generation projects on behalf of elven municipal utilities and one irrigation district that supply 16% of California’s power.

Through a competitive selection process administered by SCPPA, LADWP is the buyer under a Power Purchase Agreement of the energy, environmental attributes, and other rights in connection with the Red Cloud Wind Farm project. The Red Cloud Wind Farm is a 331 MW wind project located in New Mexico that will be the largest, highest capacity, and lowest cost wind farm in LADWP’s renewable energy portfolio. The Red Cloud Wind Farm will provide 1.33 million MW hours of energy each year, enough clean energy to power 222,300 homes in Los Angeles.

Holland & Hart’s Electric Power transaction was led by Denver-based partner Ashley Wald. The firm’s Electric Power team leverages decades of power industry experience to help clients seize opportunities to produce, develop, generate, and move electric power in the renewable and conventional power industries.
