Holland & Hart Named a 2024 Colorado Powerhouse by Law360

Holland & Hart is proud to be named to Law360’s inaugural Colorado Regional Powerhouse list. The feature on Holland & Hart highlights the firm’s ”reputation as a leading platform for renewable energy deals and complicated litigation.”

Trademark partner Hope Hamilton told Law360, “We are one of the few general practice firms that still exists, so when we have client needs … that run the gamut of whatever industry, whatever issue may come up, we can reach to colleagues and have a really deep bench of folks we can go to to address those issues.”

Renewable energy partner Ashley Wald described how “Part of widening the energy space has been working with developers and real estate-focused attorneys to help make deals come to fruition,” and in Colorado, “longtime electric associations have been leaving their power providers and forging their own paths for connectivity.” Wald explained, “This is all coming at a time when … Colorado and the central U.S. is not part of an organized energy market, formally, although it's coming and many entities are participating in the [Southwest Power Pool]," adding, "So you have all of these really cool energy trends happening in Colorado at one time, and you have people like my colleagues and myself who have been focused on Colorado, and focused on the Rocky Mountains and the energy transition, and they're like, 'OK, let's make this happen.'"

Matt Smith, leader of the firm’s Commercial Litigation practice, commented that the firm’s successful defense of Ball Aerospace, now BAE Systems, after a jury trial is “a really good example of the type of litigation that we're dealing with on a pretty regular basis, and they're going to trial now, which is also kind of a shift in the market.” Smith also recounted the firm’s successful defense of cannabis cultivation company JERB Limited at a weeklong jury trial helped the client retain $820,000, remarking “we were very happy, the client was very happy, we got a complete dismissal and we were awarded our attorney’s fees in that case.”

Hope Hamilton described the firm’s Colorado-based IP practice: "The IP group here at Holland & Hart is very well nationally known, but the cool thing that we offer as well, is that we have been in this footprint doing IP for decades," adding "For example, we are 22 or 23 years into being one of the very first sponsors of the Rocky Mountain IP and Technology Institute, which is one of the largest IP and tech conferences in the nation, and we draw a lot of really cool people in, including from the USPTO, etc."
