Holland & Hart Commemorates Juneteenth 2022

Sunday, June 19, is Juneteenth, the oldest nationally recognized commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It is an opportunity to reflect on the persistence of racial inequality for Black Americans and to consider what more we can do.

As individuals and a law firm, we can intentionally engage in conversations and initiatives that elicit and eliminate racial and ethnic inequalities in our communities. As the past 157 years have shown, meaningful change doesn’t happen when only a committed few are involved. We must all do our part.

Monday, June 20, is the federal Juneteenth holiday and many members of the firm will be taking the day off as their paid “floating holiday” that we introduced earlier this year.

Whether you choose to take a day to join in Juneteenth celebrations around our communities or engage in your own reflection, I encourage you to expand your knowledge of the underpinnings and ongoing repercussions of racial inequity. For your reference, the June 14 edition of the All In DEI Newsletter outlines some great reading, listening, viewing, and event options.

As a firm, we continue to support and lead racial justice organizations such as the Denver Law Firm Coalition for Racial Equity, the Center for Legal Inclusiveness, the Utah Center for Legal Inclusion, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Lawyers for Good Government, and other social justice organizations in our communities so they can continue their critical social justice work. We also have undertaken numerous racial and social justice pro bono matters under our racial justice pro bono policy.

Throughout the year—in our work, communication, policies, and interactions with one another—we strive to maintain a workplace that nourishes and respects the dignity of each individual. For management and firm leadership, continuing to make Holland & Hart a more equitable and inclusive workplace is a strategic priority, and we welcome suggestions for initiatives, partner organizations, and other opportunities that help us do our part as a firm. Please reach out to your Practice Group Leader, supervisor, or team leader with ideas.
