Holland & Hart Commemorates Juneteenth

Against the backdrop of the last year, Holland & Hart commemorates Juneteenth, not only for the end of institutional slavery in America on June 19, 1865, but to reflect on the persistence of racial inequality experienced by Black Americans 156 years later.

As individuals or a law firm, we will not end racial inequity. But, as individuals and a law firm, we can intentionally engage in conversations and initiatives that elicit and eliminate racial and social injustice. These efforts cannot be the work of only a committed few—we must all do our part.

Arming ourselves with information and education is a crucial way to combat inequality. Engaging in frank conversations about the underpinnings of racial inequity—why we consciously or unconsciously hold beliefs or behave in ways that treat some people as less than others—is as critical, as are intentional actions which challenge the subjective and status quo, which often harbor implicit bias.

This year, Holland & Hart will celebrate and honor Juneteenth with an educational program and workshop to understand and work towards eliminating racial bias, “Understanding and Eliminating Racial Bias in the Legal Profession.”

We will also continue to financially support and lead racial justice organizations such as the Denver Law Firm Coalition for Racial Equity, the Center for Legal Inclusiveness, the Utah Center for Inclusion, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Lawyers for Good Government, and other social justice organizations in our communities to ensure that they continue their critical social justice work.

While much work remains ahead, continuing to make Holland & Hart a more equitable workplace and creating opportunities for engagement, both inside and outside the firm, is a strategic priority for management and all firm leaders. We hope you will join us.
