DENVER (December 7, 2007) - Governor Ritter appointed Holland & Hart attorney James Tarpey to the Colorado Public Utilities Commission. Tarpey will fill the term of retiring Commissioner Carl Miller beginning in January 2008.
Tarpey has worked in the energy, utility and regulatory industry since 1973. He has extensive litigation and transactional experience in numerous electric, natural gas and telecommunication matters of a business, competitive and regulatory nature. Tarpey was a member of the Task Force on Reliable Electricity Infrastructure and Wyoming Infrastructure Authority. Additionally, he has served as an Administrative Law Judge from the Colorado Public Utilities Commission and an Assistant Attorney General representing the Commission.
"I am very pleased Gov. Ritter has appointed me to this position and I appreciate the associated responsibilities," Tarpey said. "It is important for Colorado to meet its energy needs in a way that is responsible both environmentally and economically. The PUC will play a key role in achieving that goal."
Ritter said he plans to reappoint Tarpey to a full four-year term in January 2009.
