Former United States Attorney for Montana and Department of Justice Official Joins Holland and Hart
Billings, Mont. (May 28, 2010) – Holland & Hart is pleased to welcome Bill Mercer to the firm’s Environment, Energy and Natural Resources practice group.
Mercer represents clients before government agencies in energy and environmental regulatory matters as well as litigation related to the development of natural resources. He also provides compliance counseling and represents companies and individuals in response to state and federal investigations and cases.
Previously, Mercer served in the U.S. Department of Justice for twenty years as a U.S. attorney (2001 to 2009) and as an assistant U.S. attorney (1994 to 2001) during which time he was responsible for natural resources litigation, criminal case prosecution, and appellate matters. From June 2005 through July 2007, Mercer served as a senior Justice department official in the positions of acting associate attorney general and principal associate deputy attorney general. As acting associate attorney general, he served as the third-ranking official in the Department of Justice and had oversight responsibilities for five litigating divisions with criminal and civil cases.
Mercer earned degrees from the University of Montana, Harvard University, and the George Mason University School of Law.
