The energy industry today is at an exciting and dynamic crossroads. While federal climate change legislation has been delayed, most still believe it is on its way. In the meantime, what is the role for the states in addressing climate change? What will the future energy portfolio of electric utilities look like after carbon regulation takes effect? Will it be mostly renewables, energy efficiency and distributed generation? Or will it be dominated by "clean" coal, natural gas and nuclear resources? What changes, if any, need to be made to the regulatory model to get to that future? And what are the other obstacles - transmission, financial, technological - facing the industry as it pursues one course or the other, or both? At Law Seminars International's Seventh Annual Comprehensive Conference on Energy in the Southwest, presenters will explore the answers to these questions, and try to put in perspective the multitude of issues facing energy providers in the Southwest today.
Holland & Hart attorney Robert Pomeroy is serving as one of the program's co-chairs, and Holland & Hart attorney Frederick Schmidt will be contributing to a panel entitled "Differences in State Resource Developjment Environments: Markets, Regulatory Barriers, and Experiences in Overcoming Them."
