Doug Benevento Named Chair of Colorado Chamber of Commerce Energy & Environment Council

Holland & Hart is pleased to announce that Doug Benevento, an environmental law partner in the firm’s Denver offices, has been named Chair of the Energy & Environment Council of the Colorado Chamber of Commerce.

The Colorado Chamber’s Energy & Environment Council provides policy expertise in the areas of air, water, industrial waste, and energy. The Council meets monthly during the legislative session and the subcommittees meet on an as-needed basis. In order to ensure that legislation and regulation do not unfairly increase the costs of doing business or make it burdensome for regulated businesses to function, the Council works closely with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the Colorado General Assembly, and the Executive Branch. Policy councils are at the core of the Colorado Chamber’s work, offering a unique opportunity for Chamber members to add their expertise to our policymaking and influence legislation and regulations that impact business.

Doug brings a sophisticated understanding of environmental policy and compliance from his high-level leadership roles at federal and state agencies, including serving as the EPA Acting Deputy Administrator and the EPA Region 8 Administrator as well as the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Executive Director. His role as a senior executive at Xcel Energy gives him valuable insight into the challenges businesses face while navigating complex regulatory regimes and myriad regulations.
