Colorado Lawyers Committee Recognizes Nonprofit Legal Audit Clinic Team and Sam Edwards

Congratulations to Sam Edwards and the eight other members of the Nonprofit Legal Audit Clinic Team, one of four teams nominated as the 2017 “Team of the Year” by the Colorado Lawyers Committee. At today’s annual luncheon, the Jail Wait Litigation Team won the award.

The Audit Clinic Team organizes twice-yearly events that combine a CLE program for attorneys and an audit clinic for non-profit organizations. At each half-day event, a panel of attorneys conduct a CLE program on current legal issues affecting non-profit organizations that is attended by about 50 attorneys practicing at law firms, in-house, or in government service. In the clinic portion of the event, those 50 volunteer attorneys provide pro bono legal advice to participating non-profit organizations on issues that may range from governance to employment to intellectual property. The volunteer attorneys are matched with a non-profit organization based on the organization’s legal needs and the attorney’s area of expertise. Interested non-profit organizations submit an application to ensure they meet the criteria for the audit clinic, such as 501(c)(3) status, minimum operating revenue, etc.

Along with Sam Edwards, Holland & Hart Labor & Employment partners Mark Wiletsky and Steven Collis and Intellectual Property attorney Lindsay Silber each served as CLE panelists. Other members of the Legal Audit Team include David Coats, Martina Hinojosa, Jill Tenley Oldak, Carolyn Powell, Hannah Pressler, Peter Schwartz (chair), Scott Thompson, and Melanie Tsuchida.
