Climate Change & Energy Development in the West

Climate Change is rapidly emerging as an important and complex policy area. Accordingly, energy and resources companies will face legal and strategic corporate challenges. This complimentary seminar will inform decision makers about the state of the issue and the realities posed by climate change.

Sessions:

1. Federal & State Approaches to Climate Change: This portion of the program will touch on Congressional initiatives, state restrictions on imported electricity, Rocky Mountain state programs, and the Western Regional Air Partnership.

2. Litigation Issues: How might litigation force federal regulation of green house gas emissions? This presentation will address tort actions, NEPA, and the Massachusetts case pending before the Supreme Court.

3. Corporate Governance: Risks facing energy producers and users from shareholder activism and tort claims necessitate crafting a corporate climate change policy. Presenters will discuss the role of renewable energy and emissions trading.

4. Sequestration as a Response: Learn about the legal and regulatory issues raised by large-scale carbon sequestration on federal, state, and private lands.

5. Dinner with Keynote Speaker Lawrence Reilly: Mr. Reilly will give his perspectives on climate change and energy development in the United States.
