Holland & Hart supported mining industry leader Barrick Gold in successful negotiations with the U.S. Department of the Interior to create an unprecedented form of conservation bank that offers both substantial benefits to sage-grouse and regulatory assurances to Barrick. The agreement marks an important achievement for Barrick, the world’s largest gold mining company, as it moves forward with its operations in Nevada. Holland & Hart lawyers Tom Jensen, Sandi Snodgrass, and Dessa Reimer supported Barrick’s team through a nearly two-year negotiation with Interior Department officials, resolving major legal issues arising under the Endangered Species Act, Federal Land Policy and Management Act, and National Environmental Policy Act.
