Nondiscrimination: Interpreters, Auxiliary Aids, and Service Animals

Federal and State laws require most healthcare providers to take reasonable steps to accommodate patients who may not speak English or who may have a disability that interferes with effective communication. This program will review the relevant legal requirements and provide practical suggestions for compliance with applicable laws, including:

  • Nondiscrimination Statutes and Notice Rules
  • HHS’s Limited English Proficiency Rules
  • Americans with Disabilities Act, including addressing Auxiliary Aids and Service Animals
  • Enforcement
