Matt Wells advises entrepreneurs, growth enterprises and their investors from entity start-up through exit.

As an active participant in Utah’s vibrant technology community since 2000, Matt has facilitated the formation, financing, and harvest of hundreds of successful companies in the region. Matt embraces early stage clients that benefit from his expertise in venture capital, growth equity, private equity, and M&A transactions. Matt also represents national and international clients making in-bound equity investments and middle market acquisitions of private companies nationwide. 

Before joining Holland & Hart as a partner in 2009, Matt spent seven years with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto and Salt Lake City, and was a shareholder at Ray Quinney & Nebeker, P.C. Prior to pursuing a career in law, Matt was a management consultant with International Technology & Trade Associates, Inc. in Washington, D.C.


Matt works with growth companies in a variety of industries, including software, technology, consumer products and services, ecommerce, internet-of-things, tech-enabled services, media, analytics, edtech, fintech, biotech, medical device, healthcare and specialty foods. Matt frequently serves as the relationship partner to connect clients with attorneys throughout the firm with expertise in areas such as intellectual property, tax, benefits, labor, licensing and litigation.
