Mr. Schramm's practice focuses on strategic patent portfolio development. He manages a number of large, sophisticated international patent portfolios in the electronics, telecommunications, and computer arts. He also conducts due diligence, prepares claim charts, prepares validity and infringement opinions, and consults on product design. Additionally, Mr. Schramm is skilled at maneuvering applications through complex procedures in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including re-issue and re-examination proceedings.
Mr. Schramm is experienced in a variety of technology areas, with a particular emphasis on telecommunications, system architectures, computer networks, digital signal processing, streaming media, encryption, and software. He is also versed in optical data transmission media, medical devices, mechanical designs, and underground mineral exploration.
Mr. Schramm worked in patent preparation and prosecution for a number of years before obtaining his law degree, including work as a patent agent for a national IP-specialty firm. From his many years of experience, Mr. Schramm has developed a cordial and collaborative approach with the USPTO. Mr. Schramm often achieves great results for his clients with strategic and thoughtful examiner interviews.
Among his recent successes, Mr. Schramm helped one of his emerging-company clients develop a patent portfolio that formed the basis for their acquisition. He also recently prosecuted a series of related re-issue applications to allowance, significantly broadening the scope of a mobile electronic client's portfolio.
Before becoming a patent agent, Mr. Schramm worked for a private R&D firm, where his team designed and implemented a network of monitoring devices employed in exploratory drilling operations. Mr. Schramm is a named inventor of four U.S. patents resulting from this work.
In his spare time, Mr. Schramm is often found refining his artisan bread-baking craft. He also enjoys viewing and learning about art deco architecture.
