DENVER (April 19, 2007) - Scott Martinez was recently appointed to
the Bell Policy Center's Board of Directors. The Bell is a non-profit,
non-partisan policy center that conducts objective research and advocates
public policies to help individuals and families access opportunity
and move toward self-sufficiency.
Bell Policy Center co-founder and the first female Colorado Supreme
Court Justice, Jean Dubofsky, asked Mr. Martinez to join the board because
of his history working in law, politics, and social justice. Mr. Martinez
replaces outgoing board member and Denver City Councilwoman, Rosemary
Rodriguez, who was recently appointed to the Election Assistance Commission
in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Martinez is an attorney in the Denver office of Holland & Hart
LLP. His practice focuses on the intersection of law and politics. He
represents elected officials, political action committees, and businesses
impacted by special elections. Prior to joining Holland & Hart,
Mr. Martinez worked in the political arena to promote candidates and
issues dealing with social justice. Some of his past engagements include
creating and managing the Hispanic Vote Project, serving as the interim
executive director of the Colorado Democratic Party, and crafting the
boundaries for Colorado's congressional and legislative districts.
"I'm excited to be part of the Bell," said Mr. Martinez.
"We need systems in place to create a community where people can
thrive. These systems can be barriers, or they can be enablers for a
healthier lifestyle. The Bell is really concentrating on realistic avenues
to break down barriers and open doors for people who need it most."
Other Bell board members include Ms. Dubofsky; Penfield Tate III of
Greenberg Traurig; Merle Chambers, president of Leith Ventures LLC;
Linda Morton, past-mayor of Lakewood; and Linda Shoemaker, former president
of the Boulder Valley School Board and current president of the Brett
Family Foundation.
