Ivan Koves

He focuses his practice on the export and import regimes of the U.S. (EAR, ITAR,OFAC, CBP), internal export and import reviews/audits, developing trade compliance policies, procedures, and training. He has worked with a wide array of clients, ranging from military defense and training contractors, to suppliers of wedding gowns, pet products, and bicycle accessories.

Prior to joining Holland & Hart, Ivan was the Director of Global Trade Compliance for Flextronics, a $30 billion multinational corporation. He was responsible for global Import, Export compliance and Supply Chain security programs. This and other in-house positions give Ivan an appreciation for the real-world problems and complexities of businesses as they work in international markets.

Ivan helps importers to classify, value and determine country of origin for their products and minimize the payment of duties. He advises exporters regarding licensing requirements and restrictions on trading with certain countries, often filing license applications on clients’ behalf. He also conducts internal investigations and submits disclosures to government agencies to minimize the impact to clients when they may have violated import or export regulations. Ivan also provides training for client personnel to ensure compliance with import, export, and trade sanction requirements.
